Referrals

You can refer a child to Small Steps at any time. No formal referral is necessary and we accept referrals from both parents and professionals working with the child.

Small Steps works with children who's primary need is physical. So if you feel your child's main requirement for support is for their communication, social, emotional or behavioural needs, you could contact Ambitious about Autism, who are experts in supporting families in these areas. If you are unsure about your child's needs, please do get in touch and we'd be happy to talk things through with you.

Small Steps works with children if…

  • they are under 4 years of age when you make contact,
  • they have a predominantly physical disability or a significant motor delay,
  • they are not in a Special School full time,
  • the child is likely to obtain benefit from the Conductive Education approach,
  • the parents / carers commit to attend sessions and incorporate tasks into daily life with the child at home.
  • they are not yet walking independently.

The parent/carer must commit to attending sessions regularly, and they need to be physically fit enough to be hands on with the child. The parent/carer needs to provide advanced notice, whenever possible, if unable to attend a session. We would prefer a parent (rather than a carer) to attend the initial play session if possible.

To refer a child please click the button above and fill out a short form. A member of staff will then contact you to talk about next steps.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us by phone or email, we'd be happy to chat to you!
